Trunk Bay (St. John).
Trunk Bay is the undisputed crown jewel of Virgin Islands National Park, famed for its brilliant white sand, clear turquoise water, and steep, undeveloped green hills. What truly sets this shoreline apart is its 225-yard underwater snorkeling trail; marked by submerged plaques that explain the marine ecosystem, it is a rare, self-guided educational path winding around the rocky islet of Trunk Cay. Unlike the park's more remote bays, this one is fully managed, featuring lifeguards, freshwater showers, equipment rentals, and a snack bar—amenities funded by a small park entrance fee. To avoid limited parking, arrive early or take an open-air taxi from Cruz Bay. Be sure to stop at the North Shore Road overlook on your way down for the ultimate postcard view of the island's most photographed sweep of coast.
