About The Xplorist
Why we built The Xplorist
The Xplorist is built to cut through the noise. Never has there been so much travel information and so many “tastemakers,” apps, and publications loudly insisting on the BEST place to go, thing to do, restaurant to dine at. The result, for most of us, is fifteen open browser tabs, a notes app full of half-saved screenshots, and a creeping suspicion that none of it actually fits how you travel. Paralysis by analysis should not be associated with planning your next adventure.
Real travel planning happens at the intersection. Which restaurants show up on three lists? Which hotel has been on everyone’s best-of for four years running? We cross reference 50+ trusted sources and show you where they collectively agree is worth your time.
We also believe travel is more than the resort you stayed at or the Instagram picture you posted. If you didn’t learn anything new about the place you visited, were you really there at all? That’s why, from our inception, we’ve included recommendations for titles to Read, Watch, and Listen to alongside every destination. That could be a novel set in Lisbon to inspire you before the trip, a film that set the mood on the flight over, or a playlist to listen to as you take in your new surroundings. By immersing yourself in the culture before you go or while you’re there, you can create a formative experience every time you step foot somewhere new.
That’s the whole idea. A better starting point on one side, a richer experience on the other. The ultimate travel desk, built for those who travel for travel’s sake.
Frequently asked
Questions?
User reviews can be messy. Reviewers are often improperly incentivized (either by free meals, discounts, grievances, etc.) and ratings tend to cluster at the extremes rather than the honest middle. Plus, there are plenty of major outlets that already do that well. We're after something different. And, do you and Karen from Nebraska actually have the same taste in hotels?
