Designed for slow-paced, non-commercial travel with a 45 mph speed limit, the route links directly to scenic overlooks, hiking trails, and the North Carolina Arboretum. While winter closures occasionally turn the road into a pedestrian-only trail, the warmer months offer lush green slopes, wildflowers, and cooler mountain temperatures perfect for roadside picnics.
