Chesapeake Bay.
Located at 1750 Forest Drive, this former state insurance headquarters is a prime example of adaptive reuse, having been completely transformed from a utilitarian 1980s prefab structure into a light-filled, modern office hub. Today, the building serves as a vital civic anchor, housing the Chesapeake Bay Program and the National Park Service’s Chesapeake Bay office, which coordinates stewardship and tourism efforts across the bay's massive 41-million-acre watershed. Architecturally, the redesign connects its single- and two-story wings via a dramatic double-height atrium illuminated by large skylights. Tailored for modern professionals, the pet-friendly complex features collaborative outdoor spaces, a Wi-Fi-enabled cafe, showers, and a bike-share station.
