Cypress Island Preserve.
Cypress Island Preserve spans 9,500 acres of diverse habitats, including hardwood forests and cypress-tupelo swamps, making it the largest remaining tract of its kind in the Teche-Vermilion watershed. It's an important ecological site, hosting one of Louisiana's largest wading bird rookeries, where thousands of nesting birds, such as White Ibises and Roseate Spoonbills, can be observed in spring. In addition to birdwatching, visitors can engage in hiking, kayaking, and wildlife observation, spotting reptiles, amphibians, and various aquatic species. The preserve features scenic views, especially at sunset, and includes a small visitor center, though some facilities may be temporarily closed for repairs. This preserve offers an enriching experience for outdoor lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
