Transcarpathian Architecture and Lifestyle Open Air Museum.

Sitting on the southern slope of Castle Hill next to Uzhhorod Castle, this compact, 3.5-hectare open-air museum offers a walkable map of historic Zakarpattia. Opened in 1970, the site features more than 30 authentic wooden structures relocated from villages across the region, representing the daily life of various Carpathian ethnic groups from the 17th to the early 20th centuries. Rather than a collection of isolated homes, it is a reconstructed ecosystem of pre-industrial village life, complete with a schoolhouse, tavern, water mill, smithy, and beehives. The undisputed centerpiece is the 16th-century St. Michael’s Church, a striking example of religious timber construction with a shingled roof and an onion-domed steeple.
