The Monument Roman Walls of Lugo, built in the late 3rd century, represent one of the finest examples of late Roman military fortifications in Western Europe. Remarkably well-preserved, these walls measure 2 kilometers in length and feature 46 towers, 10 gates, and multiple access stairways. They form a complete defensive complex, including a moat and intervallum, unique among Roman sites across continents. These structures have not only defined the city's layout but also integrate seamlessly into modern urban life, allowing visitors to stroll along their perimeter. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000, the walls exemplify the significance of Roman engineering and continue to be celebrated through local festivals like Arde Lucus, showcasing Lugo's rich cultural heritage.
