Wildebeest Kuil Rock Art Tourism Centre.

Located 16 kilometers outside Kimberley, this site preserves over 400 ancient rock engravings scattered across a sacred volcanic hill. Rather than a static museum, Wildebeest Kuil functions as a living connection to the past, managed in collaboration with the local !Xun and Khwe San communities. Visitors begin at the visitor center with an introductory film before following an 800-meter walkway equipped with audio guides. The engravings, some dating back nearly 2,000 years, depict animals and intricate patterns believed to represent shamanic visions. The experience is notably authentic, as community guides provide personal context to the Khoe-San heritage. Before leaving, the craft shop offers a chance to buy handmade art and books directly supporting the local custodians.
