Sulphur Springs, a "drive-in volcano".
Billed as the Caribbean’s only "drive-in" volcano, Sulphur Springs offers a rare chance to get incredibly close to an active geothermal field without the grueling hike. Located in the collapsed Qualibou caldera, this dormant volcano swaps molten lava for boiling gray mud pits, steaming vents, and a distinct, unmistakable scent of sulfur. While safety barriers now keep visitors at a distance from the hottest vents, the real draw here is highly tactile. Downstream from the boiling center, the mineral-rich runoff cools enough for visitors to slather themselves in warm, black volcanic mud before rinsing off in the natural pools. It is a sensory, hands-on encounter with the earth's inner heat—just be sure to wear an old swimsuit, as the mineral-heavy waters will leave a permanent mark.
