California Automobile Museum.
Rather than displaying cars as untouchable sculptures, the California Automobile Museum focuses on the vehicle as a piece of everyday history. Located near Old Sacramento, this warehouse-style space showcases a rotating lineup of over 120 vehicles spanning more than a century, tracking the transition from brass-era carriages to muscle cars and alternative energy models. The experience is highly interactive: visitors can climb inside five designated cars to get a feel for vintage interiors, and on the third Sunday of each month, admission includes a free ride in a select classic car. With rotating themed exhibits and knowledgeable docents who share the human stories behind the horsepower, it is an engaging, unpretentious stop for both gearheads and casual history buffs.
