Nerpinary.
Centering entirely on the Baikal seal, or nerpa, the Nerpinary in Irkutsk offers a rare encounter with the world's only exclusively freshwater seal species. Because these shy animals are incredibly difficult to spot in their natural Lake Baikal habitat, this specialized facility trades the traditional sprawling aquarium format for an intimate, performance-based showcase. Visitors watch a pair of trained seals demonstrate their surprising agility and intelligence through scheduled shows where they "sing," play with balls, count, and even paint. The experience is structured more like a compact theater than a walk-through exhibit, making it highly popular for families. Note that photography is restricted during the main show, though dedicated photo sessions are offered afterward for a fee.
