Steam Locomotives Museum.

Located just opposite the main railway station, the Sibiu Steam Locomotives Museum is a gritty, atmospheric open-air depot rather than a polished gallery. Occupying a working railway yard built around a historic roundhouse and turntable, the museum showcases over 30 steam locomotives, steam cranes, and snowploughs dating from 1885 to 1959. The diverse collection spans engines built in Romania, Germany, the US, and Sweden, including narrow-gauge locomotives that once chugged along Transylvania’s historic mountain lines. Because several engines are still operational for special events and much of the yard remains active, the site has a wonderfully raw, industrial feel. It is a fantastic, free-to-visit detour for photography buffs and anyone looking to step off the beaten tourist path.
