Torel Quinta da Vacaria - Douro Valley.
Torel Quinta da Vacaria is built into the terraced landscape of a Douro wine estate dating back to 1616. Located directly above the river, the 33-room boutique hotel prioritizes a deep connection to the surrounding vineyards rather than just a view of them. Designed by Joana Astolfi, the interiors favor a restrained, modern aesthetic featuring pale wood, mid-century furnishings, and private balconies—some of which are equipped with open-air tubs. Wellness is a central focus, anchored by a massive 1,000-square-meter spa and a glass-walled infinity pool that looks out over the valley. Dining options like Schistó and 16Legoas emphasize regional flavors, while the property’s own wine production reminds guests they are staying on active agricultural land. It is a polished, contemporary sanctuary rooted in one of the region’s oldest quintas.
