Taal Volcano.
Taal Volcano is one of the world's most unusual geological anomalies: a complex active volcano set inside a lake, which itself sits within a massive prehistoric caldera. This "lake within a volcano within a lake" geography makes it a striking natural landmark, dominated by Volcano Island rising from the waters of Taal Lake. As the second most active volcano in the Philippines, its landscape is constantly being reshaped, most recently by a major eruption in 2020 that altered its internal crater lake. The surrounding waters support rare, endemic wildlife, including the world’s only freshwater sardine. Located in Batangas, just a short trip from Manila and best viewed from the ridges of nearby Tagaytay, it offers a rare chance to witness a living, changing volcanic system.
