Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
Originally commissioned by Sultan Qaboos to host the 1985 GCC Summit, Al Bustan Palace retains the gravity of a state residence rather than a typical beach resort. Set on 200 acres between the Al Hajar Mountains and the Sea of Oman, the property is defined by its 124-foot domed atrium lobby—a massive Arabesque-meets-Art Deco space centered by a towering crystal chandelier. While the ninth floor remains reserved for the Sultan, guests have access to a kilometer of private coastline, including a dedicated ladies-only beach. The grounds feature five pools, ranging from an Olympic-size lap pool to a temperature-controlled infinity pool. High-end dining spans from the seafood-focused Pavilion to China Mood, while the 33,000-square-foot spa is carved directly into the surrounding hillside.
