Hananui PurePod, Stewart Island.
Perched within the predator-proof Mamaku Point Conservation Reserve on Stewart Island, the Hananui PurePod is a glass-enclosed sanctuary designed for total immersion in the Rakiura wilderness. The structure is built almost entirely of heavy-duty glass—floor and ceiling included—offering a literal front-row seat to the heavens of the southernmost Dark Sky Reserve and the native bush below. Inside, the setup is minimalist but high-end, featuring a kitted-out kitchenette and a shower with an unobstructed view of Lee Bay. There is no Wi-Fi or cellular service here; entertainment is strictly analog, ranging from stargazing with the provided telescope to listening for the dawn chorus of native birds and the rustle of foraging kiwis. Reaching the pod requires a short trek through the bush, cementing a sense of isolation that feels both raw and curated.
