Otahuna Lodge.
Set within a 1895 Victorian homestead, Otahuna Lodge is New Zealand’s largest private historic residence, yet it maintains an intimate scale with only seven suites. Located 30 minutes from Christchurch, the estate is a masterclass in Queen Anne architecture, featuring fifteen working fireplaces, original stained glass, and carved inglenooks. The experience is defined by a deep connection to the land; the 30-acre grounds include century-old botanical gardens and an extensive potager that yields over 100 varieties of produce. Dining is the centerpiece here, with daily five-course degustation menus designed around the day’s harvest. Between meals, the pace is quiet and rural, offering a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a level of privacy that feels more like a grand country home than a hotel.
