Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape.
The Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape is a breathtaking desert expanse in northwestern South Africa, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. This remarkable area is managed by the Nama people, descendants of the Khoi-Khoi, who sustain a semi-nomadic lifestyle that includes seasonal migrations and the construction of traditional rush-mat houses called *haru oms*. Rich in biodiversity, the landscape is home to over 6,350 vascular plant species, including many endemics, showcasing unique adaptations to the arid climate. Alongside its ecological significance, it features diverse wildlife, including numerous mammal and bird species. Visitors can immerse themselves in the harmonious relationship between the Nama and their environment, embracing a living tradition of sustainability and cultural heritage.
