Coco Polizzi's Medina.
After Agadir's original historic quarter was destroyed by the devastating 1960 earthquake, Moroccan-born Sicilian decorator Coco Polizzi stepped in to recreate the loss. Established in 1992, this striking, open-air reconstruction is built entirely from traditional stone, earth, and wood, faithfully honoring classic Berber architectural traditions. Rather than a bustling, chaotic residential market, it functions as a peaceful cultural park and open-air museum. Visitors can wander through a labyrinth of narrow, sun-dappled lanes, admiring intricate zellige tilework and carved wooden doors. Along the cobbled alleys, active workshops showcase local artisans practicing traditional woodcarving, weaving, and jewelry making, making it a relaxed, family-friendly detour just ten minutes from the city center.
