Hassan II Mosque.
Perched on a dramatic promontory over the Atlantic, the Hassan II Mosque is a masterwork of Moroccan craftsmanship and modern engineering. Completed in 1993, it remains one of the world's largest mosques, notable for its 210-meter minaret—the second tallest on earth—which projects a laser beam toward Mecca every night. The design by Michel Pinseau features a retractable roof that opens the prayer hall to the sky and a glass floor that looks directly onto the crashing ocean waves below. Inside, the scale is staggering, showcasing the work of thousands of artisans through intricate zellige tilework, hand-carved cedar, and massive Murano chandeliers. Unlike many religious sites in the country, it is open to non-Muslim visitors via guided tours that cover the prayer halls and the vast subterranean hammams.
