Vena Cava.
Built from the bones of discarded fishing boats, Vena Cava is one of the most architecturally striking wineries in the Valle de Guadalupe. Architects Alejandro D'Acosta and Claudia Turrent salvaged hulls from a nearby port, flipping them upside down to create the vaulted, nautical ceilings of the subterranean tasting room. This commitment to upcycling extends to the walls, which integrate discarded glass lenses to filter natural light into the cellar. Winemaker Phil Gregory focuses on a mix of traditional and experimental natural wines, prioritizing minimal intervention. Outside, the mood is decidedly more casual; the "Troika" food truck sits alongside a pond, serving duck confit tacos and local craft beer in a dusty, high-desert setting. It is a masterclass in industrial reuse that feels sophisticated rather than salvaged, offering a grounded alternative to the region’s more opulent estates.
