Mucem (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations).
The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (Mucem) in Marseille is a striking architectural landmark that opened in 2013. Designed by Rudy Ricciotti, its main structure features a unique latticework shell, creating a visually captivating experience. The museum comprises three key sites: the J4 building, which hosts diverse exhibitions and offers a panoramic restaurant; Fort Saint-Jean, a restored historical monument with gardens and outdoor spaces; and the Conservation and Resource Centre, dedicated to protecting the museum's collections. Mucem employs an interdisciplinary approach, blending anthropology, history, and art to explore Mediterranean civilizations. With nearly one million works and a vibrant cultural programming schedule, Mucem serves as both a museum and a dynamic cultural hub, inviting visitors to engage with the rich tapestry of Mediterranean heritage.
