Soori Penang.
Rather than a newly built luxury hotel dropped into George Town’s historic core, Soori Penang is a meticulous restoration of a 19th-century Chinese clan compound. The project carries a deeply personal story: Singapore-based architect Soo K. Chan, who was born in one of these very homes, returned to redesign the 15 historic residences. The resulting boutique stay seamlessly pairs modern furnishings, light woods, and serene water features with original architectural elements. Tucked next to the iconic Khoo Kongsi temple, the hotel sits steps from Armenian Street's vibrant street art and clan houses. On-site, guests will find a restaurant, a cozy bar, and a single-treatment spa, while cultural advisors are on hand to curate hyper-local food and art itineraries.
