Mount Nebo.
Rising roughly 700 meters above sea level, Mount Nebo is Jordan’s most revered vantage point, famous as the biblical site where Moses is said to have looked out over the Promised Land. On a clear day, the windswept summit offers the same sweeping panoramic view that has drawn pilgrims for millennia, stretching across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea all the way to Jericho and Jerusalem. At the top, the Memorial Church of Moses—cared for by the Franciscans—houses a remarkable collection of preserved 6th-century Byzantine mosaics depicting hunting and pastoral life. Outside, the striking Brazen Serpent sculpture by Italian artist Gian Paolo Fantoni frames the horizon, making this quiet ridge near Madaba a powerful intersection of ancient history, archaeology, and landscape.
