Enryaku-ji.

Enryaku-ji, a significant Tendai Buddhist monastery founded in 788 by the monk Saicho, is located on Mount Hiei near Kyoto. This expansive complex spans approximately 1,700 hectares and features essential structures such as the Konpon Chudo, housing an ancient flame, and Daiko-do, a lecture hall for monk training. Enryaku-ji has endured destruction, notably by Oda Nobunaga in 1571, yet it has been resiliently rebuilt, with current buildings dating from the late 16th century. The site is renowned for its breathtaking views and serene environment, making it a spiritual retreat for reflection and meditation. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Enryaku-ji exemplifies the deep intertwining of nature and spirituality in Japanese culture.
