Hatenohama.
Rising from the emerald waters off the coast of Kumejima, Hatenohama is a striking seven-kilometer sandbar composed of three linked stretches of pristine white coral sand. Often described as "the beach at the end of the world," this uninhabited, roadless sliver of land is formed entirely from bleached coral and crushed shells, creating a brilliant white surface that contrasts sharply with the surrounding sea. Reached via a scenic 20-to-30-minute boat ride—often on glass-bottom vessels that pass over sea turtles and tropical reefs—the sandbar offers a surreal, minimalist landscape with nothing but open horizon. Visitors come to snorkel in the shallow, transparent waters, walk the tide-shifting shores, and experience the rare sensation of standing on a remote strip of land in the middle of the ocean.
