Constructed directly atop Shinko Pier, this InterContinental is one of the few hotels in Japan physically situated over the water. The location defines the experience; guests are positioned so close to the harbor that arriving cruise ships and the Yokohama Bay Bridge feel like part of the floor plan. Opened in 2019, the 173-room property avoids generic luxury in favor of a maritime aesthetic, utilizing driftwood textures, aquamarine accents, and blonde wood to evoke a private coastal residence. Rooms are exceptionally large for the city, starting at 46 square meters, with many featuring sunrooms designed for ship-watching. Beyond the guest-only rooftop garden, the hotel houses an expansive Club lounge and Larboard, a restaurant focused on farm-to-table seasonal menus. It is a rare urban resort that feels entirely inseparable from Yokohama’s identity as a port city.
