ESPACIO The Hakone Geihinkan Rin-Poh-Ki-Ryu.
Seclusion is the primary luxury at ESPACIO The Hakone Geihinkan Rin-Poh-Ki-Ryu. Located in a forested valley in Miyanoshita, the arrival involves a private cable car descent from the reception level down to a riverside sanctuary along the Hayakawa River. This nine-villa retreat replaces standard hotel layouts with independent living spaces themed around four mythical creatures: the Kirin, Phoenix, Tortoise, and Dragon. The design avoids generic minimalism, opting instead for a dense showcase of Japanese craftsmanship including kumiko woodwork, hand-painted karakami paper, and lacquerware. Each villa functions as a private wellness estate, featuring individual open-air hot spring baths and, in some cases, private saunas and pools. It is a highly curated, quiet alternative to Hakone’s busier ryokans, defined by its isolation and obsession with traditional textures.
