Ohori Park Japanese Garden.
Opened in 1984 to mark the 50th anniversary of the surrounding park, the Ohori Park Japanese Garden is a masterfully condensed retreat at the southern edge of Fukuoka's central green space. While Ohori Park itself is defined by its expansive, bustling lake—once the outer moat of Fukuoka Castle—this enclosed garden is designed for slow, deliberate strolling. Behind its white walls, you will find a distilled collection of classic landscaping elements: a central pond, artificial hills, dry rock gardens, and a traditional teahouse. Its clever design completely shuts out the surrounding city, making it an easy, tranquil detour alongside a visit to the adjacent Fukuoka Art Museum. On select nights, the traditional paths even transform into a canvas for modern digital light installations.
