Hope Botanical Gardens.
Spanning 200 acres, Hope Botanical Gardens is the largest public green space in the Kingston metropolitan area. Established in 1873 on a former sugar estate, the park blends historic ruins—including 18th-century aqueducts—with diverse botanical collections. Visitors can wander through a cactus garden, a bougainvillea walk, a lily pond, and an orchid house, or find shade under a cassia grove planted in 1907. It is also a premier urban birding location, where early mornings bring sightings of endemic Yellow-billed and Black-billed Parrots. While some areas show their age, the gardens remain a vital, breezy escape from the city’s heat, shared by local families picnicking on the lawns, joggers, and visitors exploring the adjacent children's zoo.
