Tucked into a sheltered cove east of Port Antonio, the Blue Lagoon is one of Jamaica’s most famous natural swimming holes, celebrated for the way its water shifts from brilliant jade to deep indigo as the daylight changes. This deep basin—originally called the Blue Hole before the 1980 Brooke Shields film prompted a permanent name change—blends icy freshwater from underground springs with the warm saltwater of the Caribbean Sea, creating a distinct, layered temperature mix for swimmers. Framed by steep, densely forested hillsides, the lagoon offers a ruggedly beautiful setting that once drew the likes of Jacques Cousteau and Errol Flynn.
