Torre Guaceto.
A sentinel on the Adriatic coast, this 16th-century Aragonese watchtower was originally built to defend the Puglia shoreline against pirate raids. Today, the restored limestone structure serves as the centerpiece of a protected marine and terrestrial reserve. Inside, the tower houses a full-scale reconstruction of a Roman cargo ship, offering a literal look into the region’s maritime history. Beyond the masonry, the landmark sits within a diverse ecosystem of salt marshes, ancient olive groves, and white sand beaches. Visitors can explore the surrounding landscape via dedicated cycling paths and coastal hiking trails or snorkel through the protected waters. It is a rare Mediterranean pocket where archaeological heritage and environmental conservation coexist, providing a quiet, undeveloped alternative to the high-density beach clubs found elsewhere in the region.
