Timna Park.
Located in the Arava Desert, Timna Park is a 15,000-acre horseshoe-shaped valley defined by dramatic red sandstone cliffs and surreal geological formations. While it is famous for Solomon’s Pillars and the wind-eroded "Mushroom" rock, the site’s true distinction lies in its history; it houses the world's oldest copper mines, dating back over 6,000 years. Visitors can explore ancient Egyptian rock engravings and narrow mining shafts before heading to the artificial lake at the valley's center to bottle multi-colored sand or rent paddle boats. The terrain is crisscrossed by over 25 hiking trails and 40 miles of cycling routes, ranging from casual walks to technical climbs. For a bit of biblical history, there is also a full-scale reconstruction of the Tabernacle. It is a vast, open-air museum that feels more like another planet than a desert park.
