Glebe House and Gallery.
Set on the shores of Lough Gartan, this 1828 Regency-style house offers an unusually cosmopolitan escape in the Donegal countryside. For decades, it was the home of English portrait artist and collector Derek Hill, who decorated the interiors with William Morris textiles, Islamic art, and Japanese prints before donating the property to the Irish state. Rather than a sterile museum, the house remains arranged as a lived-in home, showcasing Hill’s remarkable personal art collection, which includes works by Pablo Picasso, Auguste Renoir, and Jack B. Yeats. Next door, Hill’s former studio has been converted into a modern gallery space for rotating exhibitions. Outside, visitors can wander free of charge through the mature woodland gardens that slope down to the lake.
