Walakiri Beach.
Walakiri Beach is defined by a striking, almost surreal shoreline that undergoes a dramatic transformation at low tide. While the beach offers calm waters and soft white sand, most travelers venture here for the grove of dwarf mangroves at the water's edge. Known as the "dancing mangroves," these trees have curved, stilt-like trunks that twist toward the sky, creating whimsical silhouettes when the sun sets behind them. The beach also features a unique dual-textured sand, with a distinct line separating loose, powdery drifts from a firmer, compacted section. Located near local East Sumba villages, Walakiri feels deeply connected to community life rather than resort isolation. It is less of a traditional swimming destination and more of a quiet, scenic stage for photographers and sunset walkers.
