Water Castle of Royal Jogjakarta.

Known locally as Taman Sari, this mid-18th-century royal garden was built for the first Sultan of Yogyakarta as a multi-functional retreat for relaxation, meditation, and defense. Located just south of the Kraton palace, the complex is famous for its striking contrast of restored structures and crumbling ruins. Its centerpiece is the Umbul Pasiraman (or Umbul Binangun), a beautifully preserved bathing complex featuring deep blue pools, pavilions, and an observation tower. Beyond the water, visitors can explore a labyrinth of underground tunnels, secret chambers, and a unique subterranean mosque with a central well and circular staircases. It offers an atmospheric, intimate glimpse into the private court life of the sultanate, stripped of formal museum barriers.
