Kalashree Seashell Museum.
Tucked away in the historic coastal town of Mahabalipuram, the Kalashree Seashell Museum trades the region's famous granite carvings for a highly unusual medium. Rather than presenting a dry, academic display of marine life, this idiosyncratic gallery showcases the monumental shell-art creations of artist Radha Mallappa. The collection features over a hundred intricate sculptures crafted entirely from seashells and conches, transforming marine materials into massive devotional and architectural replicas. Among the most striking highlights are an 11-foot Ganesha—recognized as the world’s tallest seashell sculpture of the deity—a 12-foot Shiva, and detailed, large-scale models of the Taj Mahal and St. Philomena’s Church. It is a quirky, highly personal stop that offers a creative contrast to the town's ancient stone temples.
