Sprawling across 200 acres of the Shyamala Hills, this "Museum of Man" is India’s largest ethnographic institution and a departure from the typical glass-case gallery. Rather than displaying detached artifacts, the museum features over 50 life-sized, authentic reconstructions of tribal dwellings built by the communities themselves using indigenous materials. These outdoor exhibits span diverse terrains, from Himalayan highlands to coastal villages, offering a tangible record of human habitation. The site also incorporates 36 prehistoric rock shelters with original ancient paintings. For those avoiding the sun, the Veethi-Sankul indoor gallery explores bio-cultural evolution within a pioneering "green" building. It is a vast, active landscape best explored by foot or bicycle.
