Karma Dhargye Chokhorling Monastery.

Located in Choglamsar near Leh, Karma Dhargye Chokhorling Monastery offers a rare glimpse into the Karma Kagyu tradition within a region dominated by other Buddhist sects. Originally established in the 1960s under the guidance of the 16th Karmapa, the monastery was completely rebuilt following a destructive storm in 2006. Today, the modern complex functions as an active center for spiritual study, housing a central Dukhang, classrooms, and a library. Visitors will find a compelling mix of traditional Ladakhi mud-and-brick architecture alongside unique stone carvings depicting both Buddhist and Hindu deities, including Vishnu and Hanuman. Situated directly opposite the Dalai Lama’s Leh residence, it serves as an essential, living piece of the area's contemporary Tibetan Buddhist landscape.
