Shri Raghunath Temple, Jammu.
Standing at the historical heart of Jammu's old city, the Shri Raghunath Temple is a sprawling Dogra-era complex begun by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1835 and completed by his son in 1860. Dedicated to Lord Rama, the site comprises seven distinct shrines, each topped with a gold-plated spire that blends traditional North Indian temple architecture with subtle Mughal and Sikh design influences. The temple is remarkably dense with detail, featuring around 300 carved icons of Hindu deities and gold-adorned inner walls painted with scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Beyond its vibrant galleries of shrines, the complex remains an active center of scholarship, housing an ancient school and a historic library that preserves over 6,000 rare Sanskrit manuscripts.
