Red Fort Complex.

Rising from the edge of Old Delhi, the Red Fort served as the ceremonial heart of the Mughal Empire after Shah Jahan moved his capital from Agra in 1639. Named for the towering 18-meter red sandstone walls that enclose its 255-acre grounds, the complex is a masterclass in Indo-Islamic architecture, blending Persian, Timurid, and Hindu design elements. Inside, the transition from the bustling Chatta Chowk bazaar to the serene marble pavilions of the Diwan-i-Khas—where the Peacock Throne once sat—reveals the scale of imperial life. While the British military later repurposed much of the site, the surviving structures, like the Rang Mahal and Moti Masjid, remain definitive examples of Mughal artistry. Today, the fort functions as both a museum complex and a powerful national symbol where India's Independence Day is celebrated annually.
