Karma Kagyu Monastery.

Nestled in the mountainous terrain of Tainan’s Zuozhen District, the Karma Kagyu Monastery stands as the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in Taiwan. Established in 1986, this active practice center departs from traditional Taiwanese temple design, showcasing a vibrant landscape of Tibetan-style colorful roofs, stupas, and intricate murals. Inside, the main hall houses a colossal indoor statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, alongside nine detailed mandalas painted on the caisson ceiling and a set of Seven Buddha stone sculptures. Far from just a ceremonial monument, the monastery serves as a major spiritual hub for the Karma Kagyu lineage in the south of the island. The winding drive up to the secluded complex completes the retreat-like experience, offering a quiet, contemplative escape.
