Hapuna Beach.
Hapuna Beach is one of the largest white-sand beaches on the Big Island, offering a dramatic contrast to the dark volcanic rock that dominates the Kohala Coast. This wide, half-mile crescent is highly regarded for its soft sand and clear, turquoise waters, which provide ideal conditions for swimming, bodyboarding, and snorkeling during the calmer summer months. In the winter, the surf picks up significantly, drawing experienced bodysurfers and offering a prime vantage point for spotting migrating humpback whales offshore. The beach is backed by a state recreation area equipped with manicured lawns, picnic pavilions, and essential facilities. While the nearby Westin resort adds a manicured, accessible feel to the northern end, the sheer scale of the beach keeps it feeling open and wild.
