Turkish Baths.
Operating continuously since around 1500, this historic hammam in Patras’s Upper Town is widely considered the oldest functioning Turkish bath in Greece. Unlike modern wellness centers designed with a vintage aesthetic, this is a living piece of Ottoman-era heritage. Inside, the classical layout remains intact, featuring characteristic domes with pierced skylights and a traditional heating system powered by a wood-burning oven that utilizes olive wood. The experience is wonderfully old-school, maintaining the ancestral custom of separate visiting hours for men and women rather than mixed sessions. It is a rare, sensory slice of living history for travelers who prefer active heritage over museum displays, offering a deeply relaxing ritual that has changed very little over the centuries.
