Evangelistria Monastery.

Hidden in the pine-covered hills of northern Skiathos, the Evangelistria Monastery is a fortress-like sanctuary with a heavy historical pedigree. Built by monks from Mount Athos in the late 18th century, it is best known as the site where the first modern Greek flag—a white cross on a sky-blue background—was woven and blessed in 1807. Beyond its revolutionary ties, the complex is a working monastic community surrounded by olive groves. The main church features a remarkably detailed wood-carved iconostasis, while the onsite museum displays an eclectic collection ranging from rare Byzantine manuscripts to a surprising array of international musical instruments. It remains the island's only active monastery, producing its own wine and olive oil, which visitors can purchase in the small shop.
