Spilios Agapitos.
Perched at an elevation of 2,100 meters on the slopes of Mount Olympus, Spilios Agapitos serves as the primary base camp for those attempting to reach Greece’s highest peaks. Known locally as "Zolotas," the stone-built refuge sits on a natural balcony along the E4 European Long Distance Path, offering expansive views that stretch across deep gorges to the Aegean Sea. The atmosphere is functional and communal, geared toward hikers who have trekked up through the dense pine and beech forests of the Enipeas Gorge. Inside, the setup is traditional and rugged, featuring wood-beamed dormitories and a dining hall serving hearty Greek mountain fare. It is a place defined by its utility and its mythological backdrop, providing a necessary, no-frills sanctuary for climbers resting before the final scramble to Mytikas.
