Schlosshotel Kronberg.

Commissioned in 1889 by Empress Victoria Friedrich, daughter of Queen Victoria, this castle remains one of Germany’s most authentic imperial retreats. Unlike many converted palaces, the Schlosshotel retains an immense collection of the Empress’s personal art, including works by Rubens and Titian, set against original wood paneling and gilded Venetian mirrors. The 61 rooms are individually shaped by the castle’s historic floor plan, featuring silk wallpapers and antiques. Outside, the 300-acre estate houses an 18-hole golf course and manicured gardens. Dining is a formal affair, ranging from six-course menus in the grand dining room to traditional English afternoon tea served in the Empress’s library. It is a rare chance to live among genuine royal artifacts without the museum ropes.
