Petrihaus.
Tucked away along the Nidda River in Frankfurt-Rödelheim, the Petrihaus is a rare survivor of the Romantic-era trend for Swiss-style timber-framed pavilions. Originally built in the early 18th century, it was transformed in 1820 by banker Georg Brentano into a private retreat that quickly became a salon for luminaries like the Brothers Grimm, Bettina von Arnim, and Clemens Brentano. Today, the painstakingly restored house operates as a intimate literary museum. Visitors can explore the Brentano family history on the upper floor, while the surrounding Brentanopark adds to the idyllic atmosphere with its rose garden and a massive, 250-year-old ginkgo tree—reputed to be the oldest in Germany and famously tied to the poetry of Goethe. It is a quiet, poetic escape from Frankfurt's modern skyline.
