Château du Clos de Vougeot.
Set amidst the most famous patchwork of vines in Burgundy, the Château du Clos de Vougeot serves as the symbolic heart of the region's viticultural history. Founded by Cistercian monks in the 12th century and later expanded with a Renaissance-style manor, the complex is a masterclass in medieval engineering. Inside the massive stone walls, you’ll find the original vat house and four gargantuan oak wine presses that remain remarkably intact. While it no longer produces its own wine—the surrounding Grand Cru vineyard is now split among over 80 different owners—the château functions as the headquarters for the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. Modern touches, like interactive tablet tours and cinema rooms, help bridge the gap between its 900-year-old monastic roots and its current role as a global beacon for French gastronomy and wine culture.
