Temple of the Oracle.

Perched on a rocky hill in the village of Aghurmi, the 6th-century BC Temple of the Oracle is defined more by its colossal history than its surviving architecture. Dedicated to the god Amun, this remote sanctuary was one of the ancient world's most influential religious sites, famously visited by Alexander the Great in 331 BC to confirm his divine lineage. Today, the ruins are a fascinating, layered puzzle; over the centuries, the surrounding village was built directly into and around the temple using its own stone, creating a unique mix of pharaonic, Roman, and Islamic history. While past treasure hunters and crude restorations have left only fragments of the original structure, the panoramic views of the surrounding palm groves and the sheer weight of its mythical past make it Siwa's most compelling ruin.
